One of the fastest growing areas in dentistry is dental implants. VIDA dentistry has been placing implants for over 20 years and has a wealth of experience in this field of dentistry. The VIDA team manage some very difficult implant cases, as well as the more straightforward ones. Over the years we have spent many hours and days pouring over cone beam scans (also known as CBCT or CT scan) of our patients, when planning their implant treatment.
If you’ve had an implant, or are considering one, then chances are you have had a cone beam scan. This scan takes 3D pictures of the bone where you want an implant to be. Visualising the bone with a CT scan can be a very important part of planning your treatment well because we want to deliver you the very best results and this means putting your implant in the best place.
Dentistry is currently driving advances in CT scanning technology. Advances in the CT machines have allowed us to improve how we treat complex cases because we can now use the scans in conjunction with 3D printing. We are also able to scan inside the mouth instead of taking impressions. All this technology helps us to visualise you, the patient, even when you’ve left the surgery. We spend time carefully planning how we can deliver you the best results. Once we have planned your case, we can use 3D printing to produce design guides which can be seated in your mouth when we are placing your implants, so we can place your implants within hundreds of a millimetre of precision.
