Rather than traditional amalgam fillings, which may be clearly visible in an open mouth owing to their dark silver hue, this cosmetic alternative is made from ceramic added to a resin base, carefully selected to match the original shade of the tooth.
VIDA dentists may recommend tooth coloured fillings because they bond to the tooth and improve the structural strength. Traditional amalgam fillings do not bond to teeth therefore the weakened tooth is more likely to break around the filling and require further dentistry.
We will normally carry out the filling under local anaesthetic (unless you insist otherwise!) and the affected area will be cleared of decay, washed and dried and a bonding agent applied. High quality Composite resin is placed on top of the glue in thin layers, each layer is set with a blue light, and the last layer of the filling is polished. VIDA materials are the best quality available and they polish in a way that makes it very hard to tell they’re not real tooth, so you can smile with confidence after your treatment.
